Program Overview

OffgridSun is an innovative Italian small-medium enterprise established in 2016 with the mission to support sustainable social, economic and environmental development by promoting universal access to renewable energy, clean cooking and safe water access in developing countries.

Since 2021 OffgridSun is actively engaged in the voluntary carbon sector by designing and implementing carbon projects on safe water access and clean cooking. The company is registered as project developer under Gold Standard and all the project that are currently under implementation are certified by Gold Standard. The OffgridSun carbon projects portfolio includes a safe water access project in Kenya and a clean cooking PoA (Programme of Activities) in Tanzania, promoting improved cookstoves, pellet and electric cooking. So far OffgridSun’s projects have reached 100.000 households approximately and is planned to reach 350.000 households in the coming three years.
OffgridSun collaborates with a variety of stakeholders for the implementation of project activities such international and local NGOs, Government Authorities, international organizations such World Food Programme, Italian Agency for Cooperation, private investors such ENI.

About the role

Within OffgridSun, the Carbon Standard Compliance & Data Management Officer will be part of the carbon credits projects team, led by the Head of Carbon Projects Portfolio. The carbon credits projects teams is currently composed of a multicultural working group of 12 staff based across Italy and Africa.

We are looking for a new human resource to join our team overseeing projects compliance with the carbon standard Gold Standard. The Carbon Standard Compliance & Data Management Officer will directly report to the Head of Carbon Projects Portfolio, indirectly report to the CEO, will collaborate with projects managers based in Italy and local staff based in Tanzania and Kenya respectively.

The Carbon Standard Compliance and Data Management Officer ensures that carbon projects adhere to Gold Standard for the Global Goals requirements, focusing on high-integrity monitoring, data accuracy, and timing reporting. This role combines technical data skills with regulatory compliance, managing data from collection to third-party verification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare project documents for compliance with Gold Standard (e.g. Project Design Document, ER sheets, Stakeholders Consultation Report, Monitoring Report).
  • Provide training to project partners and stakeholders on carbon projects registration process.
  • Ensure that projects are complaint with Standards regulation update.
  • Organize, analyze and report on data collected from the field surveys throughout the project cycle to ensure data reliability and consistency.
  • Oversee digital monitoring, reporting and validation process for project performance certification.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and automate data capture processes to reduce manual errors.
  • Ensure all carbon data complies with Gold Standard methodologies and requirements and prepare documentation for external verification.
  • Keep track of carbon projects portfolio compliance processes.
  • Manage relationship with carbon consultant and VVB to ensure successful projects registration steps are implemented towards the issuance of the verified emission reduction certificates.
  • Monitor global regulatory requirements related to responsible business conduct and update policies as needed

Requirements

  • Education background at graduate or post-graduate level in any of the following sectors: Renewable Energy, Project Management, Environment, Information Technology, Development Cooperation.
  • Strong understanding of carbon verification standards process (direct experience with Gold Standard procedures is an asset)
  • Knowledge/work experience in carbon projects sector is an asset.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets to verify impacts and generate reports.
  • Previous working experience in a similar position is an asset.
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory, knowledge of French and/or Swahili and/or Portuguese or other languages is an asset
  • Proficiency in digital database management & data visualization tools.
  • Programming skills in Python or other languages for data manipulation and analysis is an asset.
  • Soft skills: ability to work in a multicultural team, to perform several tasks simultaneously, problem solving, decision making, communication and cooperation with other team members.
  • Availability to travel in remote areas in developing countries for short-medium periods upon need (minimum 2 weeks) are required.
  • Residence in Italy.
