OffgridSun is an innovative Italian small-medium enterprise established in 2016 with the mission to support sustainable social, economic and environmental development by promoting universal access to renewable energy, clean cooking and safe water access in developing countries.

Since 2021 OffgridSun is actively engaged in the voluntary carbon sector by designing and implementing carbon projects on safe water access and clean cooking. The company is registered as project developer under Gold Standard and all the project that are currently under implementation are certified by Gold Standard. The OffgridSun carbon projects portfolio includes a safe water access project in Kenya and a clean cooking PoA (Programme of Activities) in Tanzania, promoting improved cookstoves, pellet and electric cooking. So far OffgridSun’s projects have reached 100.000 households approximately and is planned to reach 350.000 households in the coming three years.
OffgridSun collaborates with a variety of stakeholders for the implementation of project activities such international and local NGOs, Government Authorities, international organizations such World Food Programme, Italian Agency for Cooperation, private investors such ENI.

Informazioni sul ruolo

Within OffgridSun, the Carbon Project Manager will be part of the carbon credits projects team, led by the Head of Carbon Projects Portfolio. The carbon credits projects teams is currently composed of a multicultural working group of 12 staff based across Italy and Africa.

We are looking for a new human resource to join our team overseeing the design and implementation of a specific set of carbon projects (specifically clean cooking and safe water access projects). The Carbon Project Manager will directly report to the Head of Carbon Projects Portfolio, indirectly report to the CEO, will collaborate with other carbon projects managers based in Italy and local staff based in Tanzania and Kenya respectively.

Principali responsabilità

  • Assist the Head of carbon credits project portfolio in the implementation of the safe water and clean cooking projects in East Africa (Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania) by collecting information from the ground, coordinating with local project managers and partners, managing data, performing site visits where needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports to be presented to Gold Standards for the validation, design certification, implementation and monitoring of carbon credits projects.
  • Follow up projects’ certification steps according to Gold Standard international standards mechanisms procedures.
  • Collect and manage data on the field for the preparation of baseline, monitoring and impact reports by using digital tools.
  • Collaborate with the local project staff and local partners for the implementation of the project activities and preparation of reports.
  • Provide training to several stakeholders (e.g. implementing partners, government institutions, academia) on carbon projects design & implementation.
  • Liase with local and international stakeholders (Government authorities, private and public entities, profit and no-profit organizations) for the proper projects implementation, establishment of synergies and set-up of new collaborations where feasible.
  • Participate to events, conferences and workshops (both in presence and online) organized by the main actors in the carbon credits and climate sector.
  • Research information on the news and updates related to the carbon credits sector worldwide and share with the team.
  • Look for opportunities to establish new carbon credits projects in Africa, with a special focus in East and West Africa, by networking with donors, investors, NGOs, companies.
  • Identify call for proposals in line with the scope of work of the organization and support the team in design projects.
  • Perform administrative tasks where request.
  • Complete any tasks assigned by the Head of Carbon Projects Portfolio in an efficient and timely manner.

Requisiti

  • Education background at graduate or post-graduate level in any of the following sectors: Renewable Energy, Project Management, Environment, Development Cooperation.
  • At least 3 years of proven work experience as an Assistant Project Manager or Project manager or similar role in development cooperation sector. Experience in environment protection, safe water access, energy, clean cooking projects in Africa is an asset. Previous work experience in East Africa is an asset.
  • Knowledge/work experience in carbon projects sector is an asset.
  • Project Management skills (project design, development and management of operational planning and monitoring framework, financial management, evaluation of project impact).
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory, knowledge of French and/or Swahili and/or Portuguese or other languages is an asset.
  • Digital Skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • Soft skills: ability to work in a multicultural team, to perform several tasks simultaneously, problem solving, decision making, communication and cooperation with other team members.
  • Availability to travel in remote areas in developing countries for short-medium periods (minimum 2 weeks).
  • Residence in Italy
