Program Overview

OffgridSun East Africa is a Tanzanian company whose mission is to develop, design, manufacture, and commercialize innovative technical solutions to improve of access to reliable, clean, and affordable energy for rural offgrid communities in developing countries.

The company works into the carbon credits sector by designing and implementing clean cooking projects in Tanzania. The projects are aimed at improving access to improved biomass cookstoves in communities living in rural remote areas in the country, affected by high levels of deforestation due to fuelwood collection and charcoal production.

The overall objective of the programme is to reduce CO2 emissions and fuelwood consumption related to domestic cooking practices by:

  • Sensitizing local rural communities on environment protection and benefit of clean cooking
  • Replacing traditional, inefficient three stone fire stoves with locally-made, portable, improved cookstoves with high thermal efficiency

About the role

Are you passionate about clean cooking and carbon project?

We are looking for dedicated, flexible and motivated Assistant Field Officer to join our growing team. As we expand our carbon projects across Tanzania, you will spend significant time in the field working directly on the ground in collaboration with project partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training and capacity building of local stakeholders on beneficiaries data collection through digital software
  • Awareness and sensitization of local communities on clean cooking benefits
  • Supervision of cookstoves distribution to targeted communities
  • Monitoring & evaluation of cookstove usage among beneficiaries through digital appliances
  • Supporting the production team to perform quality check of cookstoves before delivery to the project site & organize cookstoves maintenance as per need
  • Performing any other duty requested by the director or head of carbon projects

Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following sectors: Community Development, Sociology, Environmental Science, Rural development, Renewable Energy or a related Social Science field.

We are specifically looking for a proactive individual with hands-on field experience, characterized by a strong emphasis on professional communication and community engagement. Beyond academic credentials, the candidate should have proficiency in English language, good computer skills, digital data collection & management, brilliant communication skills, adaptability, problem solving and decision making.
