How a solar lighting kit works

A solar lighting kit contains several recently developed technologies: a photovoltaic module, a lithium-iron battery and various LED lights.

The development of LED technology has made it possible to have an efficient lighting system with low consumption and a very long life cycle. LED lights have a conversion efficiency of more than 100 lumens / Watt. Therefore, they can illuminate small rooms by taking the necessary energy from lithium-iron batteries.

Lithium-iron (LiFePo) batteries, unlike traditional lithium batteries, have a slightly lower charge density. But, on the other hand, can withstand many more cyclesensuring the operation of the system for several years. Moreover, thanks to their chemical structure, these batteries are less sensitive to high temperatures and they are not subject to the risks of fire or explosion, present in other lithium batteries.

An electronic card that optimizes the yield of a photovoltaic module charge the batteries. It’s a small one, but it have all the qualities of a standard panel.
The module fully recharges the batteries in a day with medium irradiation.

These kits are usually 5 V or 12 V. This allows you to combine one or more USB outputs for charging mobile phones.

Offgridsun has gained a long experience in the design and supply of these kits. A lot of people today use them. From the Arctic polar circle up to the Ethiopian highlands, from the Himalayas to the Amazon forest.

The Energy Station Plus, is the result of various improvements gained over the years and it is among the few kits in the world to be certified according to the IEC 62257-9-5 standard (Integrated systems – Laboratory evaluation of stand-alone renewable energy products for rural electrification)
